The Cricket

When do we play?

We host touring teams from April until the end of June, then we break for July and August, during these months we run our “Allcomers” Summer Cricket, returning to our team fixtures in September and October.

Where are we?

Our ground is situated in Biniparrell, Sant Lluis on the south side of the island. This is roughly 20 minutes from the airport, approx. 5 minutes’ drive from Sant Lluis town and 20 minutes from Mahon centre. Our outfield is grass but we have a county standard artificial wicket, so we ask you to not bring spiked cricket shoes please. We recommend dimple soled shoes or ordinary trainers.

What does it cost?

We charge 375€ per game (including tax) per 40 over game (750€ per weekend). Your match fee includes teas for players, umpires and scorer, ground rental, cricket equipment, use of nets etc.

We ask you to provide a red match ball for both games. We use Play-Cricket to score the games, which we stream via Frogbox, and they can be viewed on our YouTube channel live or after the match. We will provide one umpire and if you don’t have one available in your party, we can share umpiring duties between us.

We play 40 over matches on Saturday and Sunday with the normal fielding restrictions for limited overs cricket (no Powerplays) however some teams prefer a reduced over game on Sunday.

Our Saturday side is typically the stronger team, (we are village standard mostly with a view to introducing new and junior players into the club) with an average age of the team over 40. If you let us know your standard, we will try to adapt to that to give you the best game.

Games start at 12.30 both days and we generally adhere to standard cricket rules, such as 8 overs per bowler, generous approach to wides, no spiked shoes please as we have an artificial county standard wicket. Any other special rules can be discussed between the team captains before the game starts. Cricket whites are usually worn and games are played in the best possible spirit. Tea is normally taken between innings to refuel and recharge.

We have two lockable changing rooms both equipped with showers. Of course you are very welcome to leave kit bags at the ground after the Saturday game.

How to secure your fixture?

Upon confirmation of firm dates for your tour, we will ask for the full payment of 750€ to secure the fixture. This must be paid within 30 days. Our bar is a cash only bar.

Our custom is to present visiting clubs with a small memento on their first visit to Menorca. We love entertaining at the ground after the game and can offer menus for BBQ and paellas, which we normally offer on Saturday nights after the first game. If you are a big group, we can organise musicians at the ground to help the party along or we have a 900w sound system that you can link to via Bluetooth and play your favorite Spotify playlist!

Ladies Cricket

Ladies cricket relaunching soon. We have 8 local ladies interested, so just a few more to find. We have lots of interest for Ladies teams to tour and play against us, both softball and hardball cricket. We are hoping to host a ladies tournament in 2026, whether we can muster a team or not. If you are interested in playing or touring please get in touch with fixtures secretary.

Kids Cricket

Watch this space! Coaches are being trained, first aid certificates completed, police checks are being done, and we hope to launch the junior section soon.

Building on the success of the summer cricket program we have quite a few names of local children that would like to play more.

We will be following the Criio Cricket program as governed by Cricket España.

Send us an email or get in touch if you have a child or children that would like to put their name down for when it starts.

The Sands End Swordsmen celebrated our tenth tour of Menorca this year, and it has never disappointed! From the unbelievably picturesque Biniparrell, to the overwhelmingly warm and generous hospitality of the Club Members and Players, every single tour from year one has been special. It is incredible what has been created there and we look forward to returning every time we do. It’s always great fun and the cricket always competitive. Looking forward to Tour XI!
Sam Reid
Tour Manager Sands End Swordsmen
"Arriving at the breathtakingly beautiful Biniparrell cricket ground is always akin to dying and going to heaven for any cricket lover; the smell of freshly cut grass transported me back to the days in England when weekends and often midweek evenings consisted of wall to wall cricket......bliss!"

"The tour was fantastic, cricket was great, the ground was amazing, and most importantly, you guys were fantastic, we were made to feel very welcome from the minute we arrived, right through till the time we left, I know everyone felt the same and we have certainly recommended that the club should visit again in the future."

April 2014
Surrey Seniors had a fabulous T20 tournament in Oct 2024, not only is the ground a thing of beauty but the welcome and organisation by the MCC was second to none. Great post match entertainment and meals were provided and we won’t hesitate to return should we be invited again to this special place.
Jonathan King

“We had a brilliant week in Menorca and loved both the island and the cricket club. A huge thanks to Dan, Hugh and the rest of the team there who were wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome”
Barnaby Harrison
Eton Ramblers T20 2024 champions
"We’ve had the pleasure of regularly touring for over 20 years to this magical place… from 6-aside to T20 tournaments to normal 40 over tours. So well organised and the best stocked bar on the island! My players love coming back year after year and I have a waiting list of players waiting to come! Cricket is always played within the best spirit and you couldn’t find a better bunch of lads at any level of cricket than the Menorca CC sides."
Paul Wilcock
Captain Rampside CC
"Like a hostage with Stockholm Syndrome we've come to tolerate our trips to Menorca and on some occasions regard them with borderline warmth. Some day in the future I hope our captors will release us from their vice like grip and allow us to get on with our lives and actually grow up."
Tom Benjamin
Temple Grafton CC (poor things have had to endure 13 tours)
"Langley Manor CC have been visiting Menorca CC for 20 years. A beautiful place to play cricket where the friendliness and hospitality are second to none."
Trevor Longman
Chairman
Langley Manor CC
“Having played cricket throughout Europe it’s my opinion Menorca Cricket Club is the no 1 destination for an overseas european cricket tour. The whole set up, location, opposition, ground, pavilion, bar and after match hospitality provided by the Chairman is perfect. Whether it’s a weekend club tour or a one week teams tournament don’t hesitate! get it booked. With Henry Blofeld (local resident) presenting awards to man of the match and visiting club captains what could go wrong!"

Taxis in Menorca can take a while during the busy months, especially if there is a local fiesta happening. There is only one taxi company on the island, Radio Taxis: + 34 971 36 71 11. Their operators do speak English and it always best to pre order especially in peak season.

If you prefer to hire a car, then we recommend DonCars who offer the best rates and have a wide range of vehicles on offer.

www.doncars.com.

If you prefer to be chauffeured or are a large party, then we also have some recommendations for chauffeur driven minibus hire. Contact either of the two companies below and both ladies speak English:
